"Saturday Night's Alright....

Writer: Matthew ShoomanMatthew Shooman

.....for fighting" so Sir Elton would have us believe but for me it was a very different one just gone. Avid followers of this blog will know I'm doing a walk thing at the end of May and that it will take me all day, then all night and a decent chunk of the next day too.

And for that amount of time and distance, training is most definitely required so I signed up (on the recommendation of the Ultra newsletter geezers) for a "gentle night-time stroll along the banks of the River Thames" - I may be slightly misquoting the title but that's kinda how it was positioned!

What it actually was was a 30km trek starting from Central London just around 11.30pm , past Battersea, through Putney, Barnes, Mortlake and all points in between, finishing off at Richmond. (just in time for breakfast!) It was an experience on many levels - not least walking around in the early hours of the morning and not coming home from a party/pub/club - and the ageing body seems to have stood reasonably well to the exertions which gives me a bit of hope that the actual event itself is do-able.

It's definitely do-able and all the support, encouragement and p!ss taking definitely helps! Here's a few pictures to enjoy and thank you again for all your messages x (including breakfast)
