Double Headers and the disappearing of days

Writer: Matthew ShoomanMatthew Shooman

Yesterday I received my "race number" email with start time and QR code and start line postcodes and stuff. Sh!ts getting very, very real now. Just nine days to go until the Big Walk. I've been a bit remiss in updating the blog since I did the Thames Path Night Walk (and river rescue which is definitely a story for another day) but I haven't been entirely idle in the meantime.

Two week ago I dropped the youngest off at work and ended up out walking for the thick end of five hours and 25kms Last Saturday I did a bit of a "double header" putting in a 20kms daytime wander and a 12kms night walk too. Now me and Strava are definitely going to have a falling out as I know from measuring that my morning route is absolutely definitely and categorically 20kms and not the 18.84kms some random app claimed it was. I'm not going to get too hung up on the "missing" 1.16kms but guess what - I'm totally hung up on the missing 1.16kms...... and still clearly not over it either! In the grand scheme of things it aint all that big of a deal as in nine (yes 9!!) days time I'll be on my through many, many more of them. However, if my Strava clocks me at 98.84kms you can be damn sure I'll be dragging my knackered self round a couple of laps of the car park to get the 100 !!!! I've got a busy week ahead with work and drama and general day to day stuff and, of course, will need to pack, repack and pack again both my lightweight walkers vest and the rucksack that will be waiting for me at the half way point. Probably need to get on the various online shiny things website and buy more stuff too. "just in case"

In the meantime, enjoy an array of pictures including some maps, some scenery, some hats and tee shirts and the very strange looking - but weirdly comfortable - "finger/toe socks" As ever huge thanks to everyone supporting me in this and please drop a few pennies on the charity page too if you can xx
